Another eclectic picture is set to be showcased by the Sale Film Society for its October screening, happening tomorrow night.

British documentary My Old School is the title of choice, a well-received feature which premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.

Society president Rob Ziffer said the film was a re-enactment of a true story and scandal that rocked Scotland in 1995.

“It saw a previous student at an academy, Brian McKinnon return as a 30-year-old and emulate himself when he was 15 years younger,” Dr Ziffer said.

“Jono McLeod, the director was one of McKinnon’s peers at the school, and his outing is learnt through a series of interviews with his classmates and teachers, via animation and archival footage.

“McKinnon was interviewed for the film but wouldn’t be filmed so an actor, Alan Cumming, takes his role and lip-syncs his story.”

My Old School screens tomorrow from 7.30pm at The Wedge.

Entry is free to society members and $10 to non-members.

As always, prospective attendees are encouraged to arrive half an hour early to purchase a drink at Shirley’s CafĂ© and Bar, and mingle with their fellow movie-lovers.
