Darren Chester’s recent decision to endorse gay marriage against his representative party’s position on the matter is disappointing to say the least.
It is yet another reason as to why people are disenfranchised with politics in general.
They are never listened to and their views are continuously being undermined by so-called masterminds such as Darren Chester who take it upon themselves to make decisions on our behalf, whether we agree or disagree. He knows best.
I always believed that the elected member was to represent his constituents to the government, not represent government to his constituents.
Decisions like that made by Darren Chester only reinforce people’s belief that our politicians today are unprincipled and will turn at any point to enhance their own career or agenda.
The one hope I have in our system is that the people who voted Darren in can also vote him out.
It is high time these politicians were held to account and forced to follow the very institution that put them there in the first place.
Mr Chester, it’s not too late to do the right thing and reverse your support and hold face with the will of your electorate.
