Australia should be leading on renewables

Dr Noel Atherstone, Bundalaguah

I RECENTLY wrote to my representative in parliament seeking his views on what action he thinks should be taken to reduce carbon emissions.

I was impressed with his prompt reply by letter.

However I was very disappointed to learn that he was toeing the party line “that Australia only contributes 1.2 per cent of global admissions and that the government’s present efforts were satisfactory”.

The 2020 Climate Change Performance Index ranks Australia the worst performing out of 57 countries.

Australia has the potential to be a leader in ‘renewables’ which would not only create many more new jobs, but would give us the moral stance to provide leadership to other countries to reduce their admissions.

I was hoping in vain that Darren Chester would provide leadership in pushing for change to help secure the future for our children.
