SALE United advanced to the semi-finals of the Gippsland Soccer League’s Battle of Britain Cup with a 2-0 win over Fortuna on Wednesday night.
Tommy Nguyen and captain Ash Ross scored for the Swans.
The match was originally scheduled for June, with Fortuna leading 1-0 before a light failure led to it being abandoned.
SALE United will play Fortuna again this Sunday as the premiership finals begin.
The Swans earned the right to host the elimination final after Fortuna forfeited its catch-up game to champion Churchill United last weekend.
In the weekend’s other match, Falcons defeated Moe United 1-0 to claim second spot on the ladder.
The Swans finished the home-and-away season in fourth place.
Fortuna has won both its meetings against the Swans this season, 2-0 at Sale and 5-2 at Morwell.
The elimination final at Godfrey Baldwin Reserve will kick-off at 2.30pm.
Moe United will host Traralgon City in the other elimination on Sunday.
The winners will face the top sides Churchill and Falcons in the semi-finals.
Sale’s youth and reserves teams, which finished the home-and-away season in first and second on their respective ladders, will have this weekend off.
THE season for Sale United’s junior sides came to an end last weekend with its under 14 and 12 teams losing their quarter-finals.
Trailing Traralgon Olympians 3-0 at half-time, the Sale Green under 14 team came back in the second half with goals from
Aaron Broadbridge and Cameron Green, but were unable to find the levelling goal.
In the under 12s, Sale Green lost to Moe United 5-1. Sale’s goal came from Sakhon Khamchom.
