SMCA juniors lose to Warragul

SALE-Maffra went down to Warragul in round two of under 18 Gippsland Cricket League at Bellbird Park, Drouin on Sunday.

After slumping to 4/66, a 98-run partnership between James Williams (64) and Dane Fawcett (45) helped Warragul post 7/185.

Kerrod Macgregor-Davies finished pick with 3/34, while Ned Hurley took two wickets. Other wicket takers were Jack Rietschel and Andrew McKenzie.

Sale-Maffra’s run chase never really got going, with the Sharks bowled out for 115.

Jack Wrigglesworth, Callum Polo, Rietschel and Louis Howard all reached double figures but couldn’t go on with it.

SALE-Maffra also suffered defeat to Warragul in the under 16s.

Winning the toss and electing to bat at Eastern Park, the Sharks could only manage 55.

Warragul posted 177 in reply to finish with a big win.

Zac Durrant led the way for the Sharks with three wickets, while Connor Hughes was the other multiple wicket-taker with two.

Round two of GCL will continue on Sunday, with Sale-Maffra’s senior team taking on Traralgon at Stoddart oval.

The Sharks will be looking to bounce back from an opening round loss to Central Gippsland.

In other senior matches, Central Gippsland host Bairnsdale at Mirboo North, while Leongatha play Warragul at Wonthaggi.
