Big wins in bowls pennant

YARRAM, Heyfield and Sale White had big wins in North Gippsland section one bowls on Saturday.

Maffra had a come from behind win over Sale Golf.

Next week will be the final round before the Christmas break, with pennant resuming on January 17.

Sale Blue, Rosedale, Yarram and Sale White still lead the way in section two.

In section three, Sale Blue and Sale White look safe in first and second spots, while third and fourth places are still up for grabs by the remaining teams.

THE finals of the North Gippsland midweek bowls pennant will be played on Tuesday at Maffra.

In section one, Sale will play Sale Golf, while Sale will take on Heyfield in section two.

Roll-up will be at 9.15am.

SALE’S Mathew Higgins defended his region under 25 singles title on Sunday at Stratford.

Higgins defeated Bairnsdale’s Nick Defelice 25-21.

Kirsty van den Hoff from Traralgon defeated Wurruk’s Sarah Trett 25-18 in the women’s final.

Higgins and van den Hoff will represent Gippsland at the state finals in Melbourne on January 1.

Bairnsdale’s Ryes Selleck claimed the regional men’s singles title, defeating Maffra’s John Simmons 22-10.

The finals of the North Gippsland state pairs will be held at Stratford next week.

In the quarter-finals, Mick Partridge and Matthew Higgins defeated fellow Sale bowlers Rod Morris and Necip Akarsu, Jack Millier and Denis O’Keefe (Yarram) defeated Geoff Bedggood and Ron Orchard (Maffra), Jeff Amos and Geoff May (Yarram) defeated Tony Mitchell and Shane Kelly (Heyfield), and Rohan Kelly and Brendon Fleming (Heyfield) defeated Ray Kennedy and Shane Higgins (Sale).
