Sale too good for North Gippsland

SALE Netball Association’s 17 and under team won its third match from as many starts in the Eastern Regional State League.

Sale defeated North Gippsland 43-32 on Friday night.

There was a high turnover rate in the first half with exceptional defending from both teams.

Sale goal attack Laura Jones was the stand-out player, scoring 30 goals from 41 shots.

East Gippsland defeated Mid Gippsland 47-28. Mid Gippsland trailed by five goals at quarter-time and was able to stay with East Gippsland for the next two term before falling away in the final quarter.

Twenty-five goals from goal attack Emmagyn Williams went a long way to ensure East Gippsland the win.

A strong 31-13 first half set-up Gippsland’s 62-26 victory over Alberton. Midcourt player Ella Henderson was named best-on-court.

Pakenham had the bye.

IN the open competition, Morwell Navy defeated to two-time premier Alberton in the upset of the season so far.

Without coach Vicki Stevens, Navy was able to keep its composure and focus solely on the prize as they outclassed a depleted Alberton 42-29.

The result leaves Gippsland, which had the bye on Friday, as the only undefeated team.

Alberton was missing two key players, forcing it to play without substitutions. The team fought hard leading 8-7 at quarter-time.

Luck was not on Alberton’s side as wing defence Holly Monaghan sustained an injury. With no replacement, Monaghan was moved to goalkeeper for the rest of the game.

Navy brought on fresh legs from the bench for the final quarter before winning a physical encounter by 13 goals.

Morwell Red defeated North Gippsland 54-42.

After leading by two goals at quarter-time, Red surged ahead in the second term to lead by seven at the major break. North pushed Morwell but fell short by 12 goals at full-time.

ON Friday night at Churchill, Pakenham’s 17 and under team will attempt to inflict first loss of the season on Sale, Gippsland will meet East Gippsland and North Gippsland will play Gippsland. Alberton will have the bye.

In the open, Alberton will take on Morwell Red, and Gippsland and North Gippsland will clash, while Morwell Navy will have the bye.
