Champion runner Les Williams has done it again, coming out on top in the Victorian Masters’ Athletics cross country championships at Yarra Bend.
The 60 year old from Paradise Beach won his section, the men’s 60+, and came third overall in the race, with a time of 32.05.
“There was grass up to your knees,” he said.
“Everyone was slipping and sliding.”
He said he beat his closest rival by over a minute.
The win improves Williams’ percentage for the championships’ Browne Shield, the intra-venue winter championship and highest award for the Masters.
He previously won the 10km track run, and is hoping to do well in the upcoming 10km road and 10 mile run.
Williams is also preparing for the World Masters Games in Perth, and will be running the 800m.
“I have to start speeding up, it’s been a mad rush,” he said.
Williams is a fixture at Sale’s Parkrun, where he intends to break the 19 minute mark for the 5km run soon.
