Maffra rallies at Bundy

A 41-RUN last wicket stand helped Maffra post a strong total at Bundalaguah on Saturday.

Players had to contend with a strong cross wind during day one of Sale-Maffra cricket’s fifth round.

With the Eagles 9-229, Andrew McKenzie and Zach Durrant took the score to 270 when the latter was dismissed for 13. McKenzie was unbeaten on 56.

Earlier, Josh Davis scored 82 before falling leg before wicket, one of four wickets claimed by Jake Wynd.

Davis and Brett Millington combined for an 80-run third wicket partnership.

Captain Brett Lanigan and Nathan Magnuson scored 30 each.

For the Bulls, Wynd took 4-64 and Adam Ward 3-67.

The home side had nine overs until stumps, but Magnuson ripped through the Bulls’ top order, leaving them 3-21 at the end of the day. Jason Langshaw and Jordan Rodda will resume next Saturday, with the Bulls needing another 250 runs to win.

LONGFORD was the only team to bat out the day, scoring 9-205 at home against Rosedale-Kilmany.

David Atkinson top-scored with 46, while captain Andrew Tyson (36), Keenan Hughes (33) and Calum Jackson (24 not out) added valuable late order runs to help the Lizards post a competitive total.

Brandon McDonald was the best of the Warriors’ bowlers, claiming 3-55.

COLLEGIANS will resume next Saturday on 1-13 after bowling Stratford out for 264.

Collegians captain Jack Tatterson took 3-62, while Stuart Anderson and Mark Nicholls claimed two wickets each.

BOISDALE-BRIAGOLONG needs another 159 runs, with seven wickets in hand, to win at Sale Oval.

The Saints were 3-50 at stumps. Andrew Gieschen top-scored with 27, but was caught off the bowling of Ben Jones.

Michael Cassidy and Brad Woolley will resume next weekend on 12 and two respectively.

Sent in to bat by Saints captain Liam Hurst, Sale scored 208.

Ian Wrigglesworth gave the Swans innings a solid foundation, scoring 53.

Some batsmen got starts, but couldn’t convert them into solid scores. That was until Jones scored 54.

Hurst, Woolley and Andrew Nicholas claimed two wickets each for the visitors.
