Eagles reel in Fischer Cup

MAFFRA claimed the Fischer Cup with victory over Collegians in the Sale-Maffra cricket one-day final on Sunday.

Cooper Bailey was named player of the match after scoring an unbeaten 58 for the Eagles before the wicket-taker claimed three catches and a stumping.

Bailey combined with Josh Davis for a 48-run partnership, which ended when Davis was dismissed for a vital 55.

Earlier, Davis and Lee Hopkins (48) put on 74 runs for the third wicket.

The big partnerships, both ended by Stuart Anderson wickets, helped the visitors make 5-199 from their 40 overs.

Anderson claimed 3-38 from his eight overs.

Collegians had the ascendency early when Mark Nicholls claimed Maffra openers Daniel Bedggood and Josh Rurawhe, both for 11.

Collegians was bowled out for 180 in its 38th over.

Captain Jack Tatterson gave the Collegians innings a strong start, until he was caught off the bowling of David Griffiths for 23.

After losing 3-18, Matt Foster (52) and Jayden Allison (20) combined for a 70-run fourth wicket stand.

Foster was bowled by Jim Beaumont with Isaac Love dismissed soon after, leaving Collegians 6-114.

Zac Hurley tried to lead the College comeback, scoring 30, but the home side finished 19 runs short of the Eagles.

Beaumont took 3-34 for Maffra, with Griffiths and Lee Hopkins claiming two wickets each.
