Rising stars of soccer selected

SIX local boys have been selected in the Gippsland Football Club.

James Lancaster, 15, is playing his second season with the club in the under 16 squad, while Harry Lancaster, Jayden Taylor, Charlie Cockell, Cooper Coleman and Cody Hodges are playing their first season in the under 13 squad.

The club provides a pathway for junior soccer players who want to train and play at a more competitive level.

The boys train at Trafalgar five times each fortnight, and compete in the Metro league.

The club selects players from across Gippsland, with boys and girls coming from as far as Bairnsdale, Warragul and Inverloch.

To gain selection, the boys had to attend three stages of trials which began in October, with final squads selected in February.

The season has begun for the under 13 boys, who have won both of their opening away games against Casey and Baxter, while the under 16s have had a loss and draw from their first two matches.
