LVSL top team tastes defeat

LATROBE Valley Soccer League leader Falcons suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday night.

Falcons lost the rematch of last year’s grand final to Traralgon Olympians 3-1.

Olympians came from 1-0 down to smash Falcons in the second half with three goals.

After a testing start, Falcons got on board a minute before half-time when Sam Amaira got one past the Olympians keeper.

In the second half, Olympians pushed forward more often, putting the Falcons defence under pressure. The equaliser came on 71 minutes from Ivan Vekic after good play upfield.

Olympians claimed the lead when Germaine Otieno scored at 79 minutes.

Full of confidence, Olympians extended its lead at 81 minutes when Alradi Ali scored the sealer to inflict their second successive defeat over Falcons.

ON Sunday, Newborough-Yallourn United defeated local rival Monash 4-2.

The Combine scored after only two minutes when Shayne Pavich got into position to lob the keeper.

Monash was playing the long ball game and it brought results only seven minutes later when Ryan Semple equalised.

NYU went a goal up again at 24 minutes through Alex Van Vliet.

Monash came out fighting hard in the second half to equalise through Jonathan Cook.

The Combine cranked up in the last 10 minutes, with Hayden Tanti playing superbly scored twice to seal victory for his side.

TRARALGON City came from a goal down to defeat Churchill United 2-1.

The win-less Rams went ahead 10 minutes in through Jarred Johnson, but City equalised on the 44 minute mark with a classic goal from DJ Matar.

The Roosters played hard and were eventually rewarded with the winner from Daniel Holt at 72 minutes.

TRARALGON Victory gained its first ever points over Fortuna, with the sides drawing 1-1.

Both goals came in the first half, with Trafalgar breaking open at 33 minutes from Oliver Tait and Kuku Mahmoud scoring for Fortuna shortly before the break.

MOE United scored in each half to defeat a determined East Gippsland United. Luke Bathgate scored in the 11th and 79th minutes.
