Award for Wade

DARCY Wade was recently named 2018 Equestrian Victoria Young Showjumping Rider of the Year.

Wade, from Stratford, was initially selected as a top 10 finalist to attend a judging day where finalists were marked on horse and rider presentation, riding ability, coachability, a leadership/teamwork exercise, communication skills and delivery of a five-minute presentation.

The top three from this day then attended another interview before the awards night.

Wade was thrilled to receive the award and was shocked when his name was announced.

His horse Westley Maximillian also received the Showjumping Horse of the Year award.

The Gippsland Grammar year 12 student has just returned from two overseas competitions — the International Pony Club Tetrathlon in Tryon, North Carolina, USA, placing sixth individually and assisting the Australian male team to fourth place. Wade was the highest placed Australian male of the four-member team.

Wade also travelled to New Zealand for the Waikato Modern Pentathlon Championships, winning the gold medal in the male youth A division.
