SALE-Maffra began its Melbourne Country Week cricket campaign with a 10-run victory over Traralgon on Monday.

At Frankston, an unbeaten 64 from Ben Jones, 51 from Lee Hopkins, 46 from Cloete Buitendag helped the Sharks score 7-257 from their 50 overs.

Traralgon was bowled out for 247 in its final over.

Opener Jordan Gilmore scored a run a ball 120 to set-up the Tornadoes chase.

Traralgon lost its final three wickets for nine runs.

Jack Rietschel and Buitendag both claimed two wickets for the Sharks.

On Tuesday, Sale-Maffra will play Mornington Peninsula, which is coming off a round one loss.
