MID Gippsland found rhythm in the second half to defeat Sale 49-31 in its open match of the Eastern Zone Premier Netball Competition on Friday night.
Needing to cover the absence of goaler Jaclyn Douch, who took some time out to get married, and Molly Hevers, Mid Gippsland began slowly.
Mid Gippsland eventually took control of the match, scoring 24 goals to 13 in the second half to win by 18.
In the boilover of the night, Bairnsdale defeated the previous unbeaten Churchill-Traralgon 33-21.
Churchill-Traralgon struggled to find momentum from the start and Bairnsdale took advantage, holding its opposition to a mere three goals in the second quarter.
Changes were made at both ends of the court for the combined team but to no avail as Bairnsdale pushed to record its first win.
TAKING on Bairnsdale in the 17 and under competition, North Gippsland began with some sharp shooting to take a slender lead into the first break.
With the team trying some new combinations in preparation for finals, things didn’t go North’s way and it wasn’t able to match up with the top of the ladder Bairnsdale.
Bairnsdale played with discipline and energy as it continued to increase its lead to win 42-35.
Gippsland continued its winning ways, defeating an undermanned Mid Gippsland 60-19.
IN round four of 15 and under competition in Sale last Monday night, both Sale teams had strong wins, while Gippsland League Red comfortably accounted for Gippsland League Blue.
