WEST Sale was victorious in two North Gippsland Bowls Division Saturday pennant grand finals at Sale.
Play had been underway less than an hour when the heat rule was applied and play was suspended for the three grand finals.
At that stage in section one, West Sale was leading Sale White 17 shots to 14 with just 15 ends completed.
In section two, Heyfield had jumped to a 27-15 lead over Sale White after 23 ends, and West Sale was leading Heyfield Navy 16-8 after 15 in section three.
When play resumed, Sale White looked like it was taking control in section one with West Sale dropping numbers. After 39 ends, White led 42-37.
At end 50, West Sale skip Dennis O’Keefe had found his voice and a couple of great conversions across the rinks had his team in front 55-51.
West Sale was ruthless in the closing stages of the game, running out a 84-71 victor.
The gap had narrowed in section two, with Heyfield leading 44-38. Sale White could not contain the consistent Heyfield team, which won 78-60.
In section three, West Sale led Heyfield Navy 33-25 after 30 ends.
Navy clawed its way back to be three down with one end to play, but West Sale skipper Joe Simic slammed the door shut with two outstanding final bowls to see his team 49-45, a great 89th birthday present for team member Max Duggan.
