REIGNING North Gippsland football premier Yarram provided Churchill with its first loss of the season on Sunday.
In the only NGFNL match of the long weekend, the second-placed Demons moved within a game of the Cougars on the ladder after their 39-point victory – 15.13 (103) to 9.10 (64) – at Gaskin Park.
Despite the home side having the better of play early, the Demons led by 18 points at quarter-time after kicking four goals to one.
Adding four goals to the Cougars’ two during the second term, the Demons stretched their advantage to 33 by half-time.
Churchill stayed in the contest by booting five goals to four during the third quarter, reducing to the deficit to 25 points at the final change, but the Demons made sure of their victory with a three-goal to one fourth term.
Liam Bentley and Liam Farley stood-out for Yarram, with Lukas Jenkins kicking three goals.
For the Cougars, Brandon Holt booted four goals, with Lucas Towns their best player.
