LOCH Sport Golf Club will have a new club house well ahead the Victorian Sandgreen Championships it is now scheduled to host next year.
The championships were to be held this year but have been postponed to August 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Gippsland South MLA Danny O’Brien congratulated the club on receiving $163,000 from the Latrobe Valley Authority to build a new clubhouse.
“I visited the club last year in support of their application and saw first-hand how poor their existing facilities were,” he said.
“The current club room is literally rotting away and is no longer fit for purpose.
“The new barn-style facility will have inside toilets for the first time, a disabled toilet, a bar, kitchen, captains’ room, store room and social area as well as direct access to a four-metre veranda overlooking the course.”
Mr O’Brien said the club had done a lot of fundraising and would be contributing around $30,000, plus significant in-kind support to the project.
“This will be a great facility for Loch Sport and will help the club attract new members and host more events like the Victorian Sandgreen Championships next year,” he said.
“I was pleased to support the club’s application for funding and look forward works getting underway in July.”
Mr O’Brien said the club was placing an emphasis on using local contractors and tradesmen in the project and would welcome any volunteers to help with the building.
