MOE will travel to Maffra to headline Round 2 of the Gippsland League.
Sunny conditions are predicted, which coupled with the long and narrow dimensions of the Maffra ground should see plenty of gut running and high rotations from both sides.
The Lions broke away from a determined Morwell last week, but the challenge of playing Maffra away from home will present a whole different set of hypotheticals for players and coaches to prepare for.
The Eagles will be keen to atone for last week’s performance, where they failed to kick a goal after halftime against Sale.
If ever a team ruthlessly destroys an opposition once they sense a weakness it is Maffra, so Moe will need to ensure the Eagles aren’t given a look in.
Traditionally Maffra prefer to guard space rather than a direct opponent. If this is the case there should be opportunities for Moe to pick their way down the ground, the question will be whether the Lions have the foot skills to execute.
IN the far east, Bairnsdale and Sale will meet.
The Redlegs had a good win on the road against Warragul to start the season, while a physical Sale dismantled Maffra with a strong last quarter.
Bairnsdale at home is traditionally much like the West Coast Eagles in Perth, and should provide a good contest for the Magpies.
ON Sunday, much interest will surround the clash between Leongatha and Wonthaggi.
The match presents something of a litmus test for the Power, who may see Leongatha as one of the competitions yard sticks.
DROUIN will host Warragul in the traditional Sunday clash between the neighbouring clubs.
Barring a draw, one team will have its first win on the board by 6pm.
MORWELL and Traralgon will complete Round 2 next Saturday, playing a night match at Morwell for the Anzac Round.
