TWENTY athletes represented the Wellington Athletic Club at the state cross country championships, held at Lardner Park, near Warragul, at the weekend.
The club welcomed many new members, while some others made their first cross country appearance for Wellington.
The highlight of the day was Debbie Husodo becoming state under 18 girls’ champion, running three kilometres in a time of 11:18 minutes.
In the under 16 girls’ 3km event, new member Lara Smythe placed fifth (12:15min), just pipping Antje Kempff in sixth place (12:18min).
Tilly Buhagier came seventh (12:26min), Elly Fleming 11th (12:54min), Darcy Knowles 13th (13:15min), Keira Gibbs 14th (13:19min) and Laura Coleman 18th (13:58 min).
Ten girls competed in the under 14 2km event. New member Grace Graafsma placed fourth (7:53min), ahead of Cassie Farley in fifth (8:03min) and Emily Kanavan in sixth (8.03min).
Maddie Buahgier placed eighth (8:08min), Kaydence Fleming 10th (8:13min), Taylah Mizzi 11th (8:17min), Matilda Farley 12th (8:2min), Mia Calleja 13th (8:41min), Makaylen Di Sisto 14th (8:55min) and Claudia Donahoe 16th (9min).
Luke Dwyer placed 10th in his first cross country race for the club, running 10:55, in the under 16s, while Chris Dwyer placed 14th (15:12min) in the under 18s.
