Strong results at nationals

Chelsea Ikin, Katelyn Henderson and Tess OToole competed at the national gymnastics championships on the Gold Coast.

THREE Maffra Gymnastic Club members returned from the national championships on the Gold Coast with strong results and valuable experience.

The girls competed in the acrobatic tumbling discipline. Chelsea Ikin came 21st in level five, while in level seven, Tess O’Toole came eighth and Katelyn Henderson fourth.

Maffra coach Robyn Dowse, who went with the state team as the tumbling coach, said it was a “wonderful achievement” for the girls to place among the top athletes in their level in Australia.

“The girls had a wonderful time and performed great,” she said.

“They all gained valuable experience from being a part of it. They have come back home buzzing and already working on new skills.

“They were all so happy to be out on the competition floor again and were proud of their achievements after such a limited and challenging year.

“As one of the state team coaches, I was extremely proud of our Maffra gymnasts as well as the whole Victorian team.”
