LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
CONGRATULATIONS to the Stratford community, in particular the cemetery trust and RSL, for organising a wonderful tribute to the World War 1 veterans who enlisted from Stratford 100 years ago.
It is hard to imagine the impact on a small community when almost 50 of their young men failed to return after years of war.
It was heartening to see so many people, young and old, attend the ceremony and very moving to watch as the extended families gathered to honour their deceased family members by adding a poppy tile to their headstone.
Many people have been involved in bringing this tribute to fruition, but all would agree that it wouldn’t have happened without the ideas, energy and leadership of Marg Robbins.
