LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
AS many will have heard by now, when Education Minister James Merlino visited Sale Specialist School on Wednesday, April 22, he announced a further $7.6 million in the May budget for the new school.
Added to the land already bought and the $4 million allocated by the Coalition in the last budget, this will enable the project to be completed.
A new specialist school has been a dire need for more than 12 years, with many people working towards obtaining land and then funding to build the school.
We need to acknowledge the tireless work of the parent body in particular the New School Parent Action Group, the core members being Di Bonney, Elaine Fiddelaers, Heather Flynn, Sara Kewley and Pam Stevens, led by Jane Nash.
The enthusiasm, commitment, tenacity, passion, good humour and many hours of work from the group and their supporters has paid off.
We also need to acknowledge past and present staff for their commitment to providing special education reflecting best practice under less than ideal conditions.
Thanks also must go to the wider community which has supported the school in the fight to make the decision makers understand the desperate need for a new school.
To all of the politicians and media who pushed for this to happen, thank you.
A campaign run with integrity and respect, we thank you all sincerely for your work and your support.
