Consider the next generation

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

DARREN Chester has shown contempt and disregard for the majority of his electorate who do not support same-sex marriage.

According to Mr Chester’s own website 66 per cent of Gippslanders do not support same-sex marriage and yet we find Mr Chester leading the charge for “marriage equality”.

I am aware that Mr Chester posed an opening on Facebook for people’s views on the subject, but does he seriously believe that is a valid gauge of general opinion across his electorate? Surely not.

While Mr Chester acknowledged that people have a wide range of views on this subject, is he also aware that even the gay community stands divided on this issue?

I personally oppose same-sex marriage for two distinct reasons:

Firstly, it denies the inherent right of a child relationship with either their father or their mother.

Secondly, it tears at the very essence of what true, traditional marriage is, the union between a man and a woman, which produces family and builds society.

Marriage and the family unit have been the bedrock of our Australian society and yet our children face tougher circumstances and communities now than they faced 15 to 20 years ago.

If we do not protect what true marriage and family is and what they stand for, then I fear the world the next generation has to face in 15 to 20 years time from now, a world where we are responsible for what has been built.

I am not a religious bigot, nor am I a hater.

What I do hate is being misled and let down by politicians who say one thing and do something completely different.

Please stop thinking about the next election, and stop and consider the next generation.
