Dismayed by pastors’ letter

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

I HAVE just read with dismay the letter from the pastors of Gippsland to Darren Chester.

Darren has chosen to listen to the people he represents, of which I am one.

I believe marriage equality has nothing to do with any sort of religion.

If history has shown us anything, it has proven that religion does not treat everyone fairly, but seeks to benefit only itself.

It is incredibly laughable to make the comment that marriage equality offers no protection for children.

I hardly think that the church powers should be making any comment on the safety of children considering what happens in their churches.

I choose to make my own decisions and not be dictated to by a group that seeks to repress and control.

I don’t believe in your beliefs but I would never stop you from having them, why do you think you can impose your ideals on others?

Marriage equality has nothing to do with destroying your religion, it is only about people who love each other and want to share their lives.

You must be very insecure about your place in this ever changing world, if the mere thought of a same sex union invokes such a reaction.

Any child born to a same sex couple will know they have been born to a family where they are wanted and loved.

Can you really say the same of every child born to a man/woman marriage?

Why is it so hard to just let everyone be happy?

Does anyone really believe that this is going to destroy the fabric of our society?

I think unemployment, homelessness and the future we are leaving for our children are more important things to be concerned about.
