LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
WHEN Wellington Shire Council was shutting down the transfer station in Sale, I and others were trying to keep it open for a lot of reasons.
Older people don’t want to drive to Kilmany to take green waste there.
Down Guthridge Parade they would go along with their old trailers and so on, no problems.
We said going on the highway with rubbish or green waste was a dangerous manoeuvre.
Councillors said it would not be a problem.
I warned that someone would be killed at the turn-off to Kilmany tip.
They said it would not be difficult for older people on the road.
Well it’s happened.
An employee in his car going to work was waiting to turn into the tip when a B-double truck rammed him from behind and pushed him nearly 200 metres into bush.
How he escaped death, I do not know.
I told you so, council.
Who’s next?
I have since discussed with council about flashing warning lights both ends and more signage.
Fix it today!
