Commonwealth funding in the billions

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

I WISH to correct the record in regards to a letter from John Gwyther of Coongulla (Gippsland Times 28/2).

The Commonwealth investment in Victorian infrastructure between 2013-14 to 2019-20 is $10.8 billion.

This includes $877 million allocated from the Asset Recycling Initiative, and the $3 billion still on the table for a future state government willing to build East West Link.

This represents about 21 per cent of the national land transport spend, a figure much higher than the one represented by Mr Gwyther.

The Australian government is rolling out a $3 billion infrastructure package with the Victorian government.

This includes a record $65 million for better, safer roads in Gippsland.

In addition, our government is funding the Macalister Irrigation District upgrades, Sale cultural hub, and Gippsland Regional Sports Complex improvements.

But there is always more work to be done.

The Coalition is committed to funding more projects that we can agree on with our state counterparts.
