LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
SEEMINGLY the Heyfield mill is doomed to close, just as the mills in Cann River and beyond had to shut down.
Is it a conspiracy or collusion of two parties to bring about destroying the National Party to gain more seats in the future?
The last mill in Cann River to close (Humphreys) was apparently denied further allocation of timber in the area by the forestry, but they were offered an allocation in Noojee, 350km away — or more than four hours travel one way.
It is being said by many, development by government, (Greens and Labor) will occur closer to Melbourne where the votes are, certainly not in the safe National seats in state control.
The swing to Labor of Gippsland is unlikely, so it is of no concern how many workers will lose their livelihood of those bringing about the closure, Labor and the Greens.
The Weekly Times article headlined ‘Communities suffer as mills get the chop’, by Kath Sullivan about timber worker Ben Humphreys says it all.
Not surprising Brodribb in the Orbost area will at some time in the future follow.
