LETTER TO THE EDTIOR:
WELL may you be offended Audrey Allitt by Scabby the Rat and Greedy the Fat Cat, but nothing to me is more offensive than people crossing a picket line full well in the knowledge that they are undermining years of struggle that have achieved those very wages and conditions that they will now enjoy.
That is what is offensive and provoking.
Is it any wonder that abuse has been thrown about?
I hear the usual comments from ill-informed people around Sale quite frequently — they are overpaid, don’t work, blah, blah, blah.
What is conveniently forgotten is that these offshore and onshore workers generally live locally where the money stays in the town, is spent locally on cars, housing, renovations, schools and in the various businesses.
When wages are cut there will be no discretionary spending, which will in turn affect these very local firms and hasten the further closure of shops.
As a proud unionist and spent with many others, months on picket lines in the 90s to achieve what is taken for granted and enjoyed today, I fully support these union members and unions in their endeavours and right to maintain their wages and conditions.
