LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
THE lead article headed ‘Times advert furore’ (Gippsland Times 25/8) provides an even-handed summary of positions taken by the participants in the same sex marriage debate.
Clearly, all the people involved in the debate have biological parents.
Yet, as the article noted, not everyone has been raised by biological parents.
In this regard, it is common knowledge that many people, so raised, seek to unravel their personal history in order to uncover their true identity.
The article also included the assertion that “the LGBTQI community fears that hurtful debate could push some people ‘over the edge’.”
While respecting personal differences, we all have to deal with challenges met during our journey through life.
Indeed, it is by meeting these challenges that we each grow in maturity as persons.
It is difficult to see how government legislation can help with this very personal process of personal growth.
