No more tractor pulls for Bushy Park

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

THE Bushy Park Tractor Pull Committee has made a decision to discontinue the annual event.

Beginning five years ago, initially with vintage-type tractors and subsequently super modified tractors, the event was primarily to raise money for local charitable purposes.

The generosity of Jack Elliott and family in allowing a facility necessary to stage such an event to be developed on their property was a major factor in staging of the tractor pull.

During the five-year period of the event, an invaluable amount of volunteer and in-kind contribution made the conduct of the event possible.

Importantly, the generosity of local business sponsorship played a significant role in the success of the event and was much appreciated.

During the five-year period, the committee has distributed $47,000 to worthy causes, including $15,000 to Central Gippsland Health’s oncology unit and $14,500 to the Stretton Park Aged Care facility.

Additionally organisations such as Lions, schools, pony clubs, sporting bodies and the CFA have been able to raise money through activities and stalls at the events.

The support of the public in attending these events have been much appreciated.
