Reports of legal action a ‘slur’ on Catholics

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

I WISH to protest against the anti-Catholic campaign being carried out by this newspaper.

Over the past few issues there have been four articles basically containing the same details.

The sole source for these articles appears to be unsubstantiated allegations provided by one person who hides behind a pseudonym and seeks to drum up support for a speculative class action.

The expansion of the allegations in the most recent articles to include most of Victoria is far beyond the remit of a local newspaper.

The author of the articles may like to consider the relevant fact that the only person convicted of offences at the then St Patrick’s College was not a Catholic.

Fair minded readers may also wonder why there has been no mention in this newspaper of offences that occurred at Kilmany Boys’ Home and possibly other institutions.

The seemingly never ending and very biased articles are a slur to the 25 per cent of locals who identify as Catholic.
