Yarram stand-off

POLICE negotiated with a Yarram man for a number of hours after he refused to come out of his unit on Thursday.

Police arrived on the scene after four members of the public had reported the man had been brandishing a knife out on the street.

The man returned to his unit, located on the corner of Commercial Rd and James St, locking himself in and refusing to come out.

Police blocked James St between Commercial Rd and Commercial St and also restricted pedestrian traffic in the area while a negotiator attempted to convince the man to exit the building.

Police forced entry to the unit about 4.30pm, with the man conveyed by ambulance to Latrobe Regional Hospital, where he underwent a mental health assessment.

According to police, nobody was hurt during the incident.
