A $10.5 MILLION upgrade blitz of the Gippsland rail line will be carried out in just over two weeks, beginning next month.
Eastern Victoria MLC Harriet Shing announced on Wednesday a $10.5 million upgrade of the Gippsland rail line would be carried out from Saturday, March 28, until Monday, April 13.
During the two-week construction blitz, V/line crews will work around the clock on a series of projects, including the new $4 million Latrobe River Bridge.
V/Line crews will also replace sections of track along station platforms at Rosedale, Sale and Bairnsdale, upgrade nine rail crossings, and replace more than 27,000 timber sleepers along 100 kilometres of track.
The new concrete sleepers, along with the new Latrobe River Bridge and other projects, will allow V/line to lift several speed restrictions on the Bairnsdale line.
V/Line will use coaches between Traralgon and Bairnsdale for two weeks while rail line repairs are carried out.
“This two-week construction blitz will deliver quicker services and a better journey for Gippsland passengers,” Ms Shing said.
“This multi-million dollar upgrade is a welcome investment in better services for Gippsland, which suffered under the previous Coalition government.”
