Sharks still in contention for final despite loss

SALE-Maffra needs to defeat South West to have a chance of making the provincial division final at cricket’s Country Week.

On Wednesday at Bayswater, Sale-Maffra was unable to overcome tight bowling from Geelong.

The loss took the Sharks’ record for the week to two wins from three matches, placing them in third place on provincial division table.

The Sharks need to defeat South West on Thursday at Oakleigh to remain in contention to make Friday’s final.

Geelong scored 7-246 with Anthony Scott taking 3-46. Geelong captain Chris Bambury scored 87 at the top of the order.

Sale-Maffra’s innings was slowed down to around three runs an over midway through, eventually bowled out for 202. Captain Jack Tatterson scored 45, Brett Lanigan 37 and Rohan Diamond 36.

With four overs to play, Geelong scored 1-20.
