Theft charges

A MALE driver and a female passenger were arrested in Maffra on Wednesday afternoon after the stolen car they were in was seen by its owner driving on the Maffra-Stratford Rd.

Maffra and Stratford police arrested the pair when the owner alerted police.

It is alleged the number plates on the car were also stolen.

It is believed the vehicle had been involved in a collision with another car at the Billabong earlier in the day.

A 37-year-old Bairnsdale man was charged with theft of a motor car, theft of number plates, possessing proceeds of crime and failing to stop after an accident.

He was bailed to appear at Sale Magistrates’ Court in December.

A 30-year-old Stratford woman is assisting police with their enquiries.

Police are seeking assistance from people who saw a vehicle driving erratically between Stratford and Bairnsdale on Wednesday morning.

People with information can phone Stratford police on 5145 6404 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
