Man charged over bashing, burglary

A 40-YEAR-old Churchill has been charged with aggravated burglary at the Latrobe Valley property last year.

At Delburn on January 11 2015, it is alleged an elderly couple were woken by someone shining a torch in their bedroom.

The pair was allegedly tied up with duct tape and assaulted with a weapon, leaving an 80-year-old man with life-threatening injuries and a 75-year-old woman with minor injuries.

Cash and jewellery were stolen during the alleged burglary.

Detectives executed a warrant at a property in Silcocks Rd, Churchill, about 10am Thursday morning.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the property and has been charged with aggravated burglary, armed robbery, intentionally cause serious injury, false imprisonment and 131 counts of burglary and associated thefts.

The man was remanded to appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

A co-accused was also arrested and appeared at court on Thursday.
