FIVE kayakers who went missing along the Thomson River near Toongabbie on Saturday night were found uninjured about 7.45am Sunday morning.
Police said the kayakers were travelling with a larger group when they fell behind and became separated.
The group had planned to meet at the Cowwarr Weir but when the five kayakers failed to arrive, the other kayakers contacted the police.
The missing kayakers spent the night on the water before making their way to the weir the next morning.
Water Police Sergeant Mark Braun said their unplanned stay on the water overnight should be a reminder to other boaters.
“During the hot weather we see near drownings, capsizings, broken down vessels and unfortunately fatalities. We are lucky we didn’t see that today,” Sgt Braun said.
“In a lot of cases these incidents can be avoided if people are sensible on the water, ensure that they carry the mandatory operational equipment and check the weather conditions.”
