Man extradited over hit-run

A MAN wanted by police in relation to an alleged hit and run in Sale last month was extradited to Melbourne on Thursday after he was found by police in Ceduna, South Australia.

John Allen Reid, aged 38, was located at a motel overnight last Friday and arrested.

A warrant had been issued for his arrest following an incident on March 23 where two cyclists were allegedly struck by a car that failed to stop.

Both injured cyclists, a 30-year-old Stratford and a 33-year-old Sale man, received head injuries and were hospitalised.

Wellington Crime Investigation Unit detectives travelled to Ceduna this week to seek Reid’s extradition.

He has been charged with negligently causing serious injury, failing to stop, failing to render assistance at a serious injury collision and other traffic related offences.

He is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday for a hearing.
