A RECENT spate of burglaries across the Wellington area has left many business owners shell shocked, and calling for answers.
The Marked Heart tattoo studio in Sale was broken into last Monday night, with more than $3000 in custom-made tattoo machines stolen from the premises.
The owner was horrified when she arrived and saw the doors to the business were open, and the security lights in the bathroom on.
She is hoping the machines will be easily identifiable because of their uniqueness, but said their loss has left her heartbroken.
“You feel a bit violated it’s a bit of a shock,” she said.
“It’s a blight on the community.
“A lot of businesses around here are struggling to stay open as it is, and then something like this happens.
“It just brings down the whole town.”
The studio, which has been open since December 2014, has not only lost its machines, but the income that they could have provided in the coming weeks while new machines are sourced.
“It’s just really frustrating,” she said.
“How much else are we going to invest into the business before someone decides to come along and rip us off again?”
“For the next few months, it’s going to be hard sleeping at night; are they going to break my windows next?”
Maria Iuliano, owner of Tall Poppy Cafe in Sale, said her business was broken into on Tuesday night, when thieves pried the front door open.
“I’m annoyed, I’ve only been here two years, but I’ve been broken into a few times,” Ms Iuliano said.
The thieves broke into Ms Iuliano’s cash register and safe, taking money.
“I know it happens, it’s a business, but money-wise, it’s a strain.”
Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Marr said Sale’s Criminal Investigation Branch was looking into the reports.
“[The break ins] have slowed down over the past few days, and we’re treating them as a series of burglaries,” Det Sen-Sgt Marr said.
“We’re looking to the community to assist us with any information they might have.”
Other confirmed targeted businesses include Lighthouse&co, Nutrition Pod, Triple F Cafe, Silver Paws Salon and AK Salon in Sale, Duart Homestead in Maffra and Stratford Marine.
