MAFFRA won three of the five East Gippsland Hockey Association matches at Sale against Wellington.
Wellington won the open match 5-2.
The home team’s youth program was on full display with its young talented forward line constantly placing Maffra under pressure.
Bayley Hill scored three goals for Wellington and Hayden Cochrane two. Maffra kept up the fight throughout the match with Scott Botten and Grant van Brummellen scoring one goal each.
Maffra’s women had a strong 21-1 win after conceding a goal from Tahlia Hill in the first two minutes.
After the early Wellington goal, Maffra quickly got its act together to equalise soon after, and then went on to dominate the game.
Jess Cull scored seven goals, Adelle O’Doherty four, Kate Steinmann three, Caitlin Frisina, Jo O’Doherty and Gabby Smith two each, with one from Beth Roberts.
Wellington claimed the honours in the under 18s match, defeating a Maffra team which battled hard 10-0.
Bayley Hill scored two goals for Wellington, supported by Declan Jones, Rhys Holmes, Andrew Pritchett, Tahlia Hill, Hayden Cochrane, Jack Edney, Darcy Chisholm and Evan Hill with one goal each.
In the under 15s match, Maffra won 11-1, placing it just one point behind Sale at the top of the ladder.
Ben Harms scored three goals, supported by two goals from Jess Cull and Angus Neaves, and one each from Adelle O’Doherty, Tim Valette, Stephanie Williamson and Lachlan White. Evan Hill scored for Wellington.
In the under 13s, Maffra pushed hard to keep the pressure on Nagle at the top of the ladder, defeating Wellington 11-1.
Tristan Neaves scored three goals, with two each from Ben O’Toole and Nikolas Valette, and one each from Tom Harms, Josh Lenehan, Archy Sellings and Lachlan White. Luke Wilson scored for Wellington.
