Cobbannah fatal crash

POLICE are preparing a report for the coroner following the death of a 59-year-old Stratford man on Friday.

The man was riding his motorcycle in a southerly direction along the Bairnsdale-Dargo Rd near Cobbannah when he ran off the road and collided with an embankment. He was located by passing motorists who rendered assistance to no avail.

The man was dead by the time paramedics arrived.

Highway patrol units from Sale and Bairnsdale attended the scene.

TWO elderly people were airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne following a collision at 6.40am on Monday at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Bengworden Rd, north of Sale.

A 63-year-old male from Mount Riverview was travelling west on Bengworden Rd and attempted to cross the highway, where it is alleged he failed to give way and collided with a south bound vehicle being driven by an 83-year-old female.

The collision was made on the driver’s side, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

The male driver was conveyed to the Alfred Hospital by air and the female driver was taken to Sale Hospital before also being airlifted to the Alfred.
