SUNDAY’S Heyfield Food and Wine Festival didn’t disappoint those looking for great entertainment, a celebratory atmosphere, and splendid refreshments from local vineyards, breweries and food producers.
The festival is in its fifth year, and is enjoying a growing reputation as a premier event that showcases some of the best the region has to offer. It attracts a strong crowd every year, not just from the local area, but all over the state.
Despite cooler and windier weather than organisers hoped for, plenty of people, young and old, enjoyed indulging in the spring day out at the magnificent, park-like grounds of the Heyfield Wetlands.
Heyfield Traders and Tourism Association treasurer Lee Clarke said the festival was an opportunity to promote local produce, wine and food and raise a few dollars to put back into the town.
“We’ve had an average of about 1000 people attend in the last few years plus kids – lots of people come along just to enjoy the food and wine,” she said.
“Tinamba was the first one [to hold a food and wine festival] and we thought ‘if Tinamba can do it, we can do it to’ – they have theirs at the beginning of the year, and we have ours towards the end.”
