YARRAM and District Health Service officially opened its long-anticipated Integrated Healthcare Centre on Monday.
Originally planned to be open late 2019, the architecturally stunning building experienced delays in construction, with the coronavirus pandemic further hindering its completion.
However staff have now been able to occupy the new facility.
Because of COVID-19 precautions the waiting room layout is different than planned, with seating reduced in line with maximum room capacity.
A COVID screen has been installed at the welcome desk, and a screening station has been placed at the front entrance where a staff member screens all patients, visitors and staff.
A staggered move in timeline had the medical clinic opening on Monday with YDHS’s client services team, practice nurse and doctors operating out of the new building.
The primary care team will transition to the new building in coming weeks.
The former Yarram Medical Centre phone number will be forwarded to the YDHS line 5182 0222, where calls will be redirected to the appropriate personnel.
To provide medical care at the healthcare centre, YDHS has secured the services of Dr Cox and Dr Yusuf as locum general practitioners.
Dr Cox commenced on Monday, with Dr Yusuf beginning work next Monday.
These locum GPs join Dr Luiz, Dr Khan and Dr Whitechurch, who will also be continuing to practice part time at the healthcare service.
