Body found in Sale

POLICE are investigating after a body was found in a vehicle on Macarthur St, Sale on Tuesday, December 6.

Officers responded to reports that a deceased male had been located in a white Toyota Land Cruiser around 1.15pm.

The deceased is yet to be formally identified.

The exact circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be determined, but at this time the matter is not believed to be suspicious.

 

Woman charged over historical assaults

DETECTIVES from the Sexual Crimes Squad have charged a 51-year-old woman from Hoppers Crossing following an investigation into historical sexual assaults.

It is alleged that a 12-year-old child was assaulted multiple times over a 12-month period at a school in Sale in 1999.

The matter was reported to police in 2021 and an investigation commenced. The woman was charged on summons and is understood to have appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 25.

Victoria Police encourages all victims of sexual assault and child abuse, and anyone who has knowledge of such a crime, to make a report.

 

International Men’s Day

To support this initiative, Sale Police Station hosted a barbecue lunch the day before in honour of their male colleagues and external agencies.

International Men’s Day 2022 was all about ‘Celebrating Mateship’ and aimed to inspire more men to #MakeTime4Mates.

“As we know, mateship is a key feature of our national identity and research indicates that close friendships and social connections promote good health,” police said.

Police added it was great to come together to join forces with their RAAF and Wellington Shire colleagues to support and acknowledge our male “mates”.

 

Police investigate fatal collision in Traralgon

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision which occurred in Traralgon on Wednesday, November 30.

Officers have been told a man, believed to be in his 50s, was hit by a car on McNairn Rd about 9.30pm.

He suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition and later died.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquires.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam footage or information, is urged to phone Crime Stoppers.

 

Alarming speed detected in Rosedale

AT 12.30am on Friday, November 25, police were conducting speed checks on the Princes Hwy west of Rosedale, when a motorist approached at an alarming speed of 190 km/h.

“The young 19-year-old probationary NSW driver was intercepted and will now have a date with a Magistrate to explain why he was putting not only his life, but the life of his mate and other road users at risk,” police wrote on social media.

Police intercepted a vehicle in Rosedale, clocked at an alarming speed of 190 km/h.

“His car was impounded for 30 days and now he has to find an alternative way to get back home to NSW.

“It’s a long walk back to NSW, great work by police for stopping this dangerous behaviour on our roads.”

ON November 17 a single vehicle – described as a silver Lexus – was allegedly sighted driving erratically before having a collision in Tinamba.

Police at this stage believe the vehicle was travelling on the Traralgon-Maffra Rd, and has had several near misses with on-coming vehicles before colliding with a tree.

The single occupant was taken to Sale Hospital with minor injuries.

Operation Triple D

BAIRNSDALE Police said they conducted a two-week traffic operation, achieving “significant results”.

Operation Triple D was conducted from November 6 to November 19, and saw a strong police presence delivered by members from Bairnsdale Uniform and supported by the local Highway Patrol Unit, along with members from Wellington and Orbost Highway Patrol.

The focus of the operation was to conduct high volume/high visibility traffic intercepts and roadside testing sites targeting drug-impaired driving, drink-driving and defective or unroadworthy vehicles and licence/registration offences. Each vehicle intercepted or stopped was subjected to a rigorous inspection with respect to modifications and roadworthiness.

A total of 14 defect notices were issued, along with more than 100 penalty notices to drivers for a range of traffic offences.

There was 744 Preliminary Breath Tests conducted and 1355 vehicles checked, resulting in 23 drivers receiving a summons to appear at court in the near future.

A total of nine vehicles were also impounded during the two week operation.

Police at Bairnsdale said they wanted to remind road users that with the expected significant increase in road users to East Gippsland in the lead up to the summer period, drivers will continue to see a strong police presence and response for dangerous driving, drink or drug-impaired driving and driving defective or unroadworthy vehicles.

 

McHappy Day in Sale

MEMBERS from Sale Police got a whole new set of skills on Saturday, November 19, as they assisted in the Sale McDonald’s store for McHappy Day.

Police said it was a fun day for a great cause, raising money for seriously-ill children.

 

Brick pillars damaged

LAST month, police received a report that two-to-three-week-old brick pillars located at the Sale Botanical gardens at the Brayakoloong Close side have been completely knocked down and smashed.

There were no visible tyre marks or any signs of vehicles being in the vicinity. It is believed that the pillars have been pushed over with physical force. It’s believed it happened between November 17 in the evening and 10.15am on November 18.
