WY Yung earned the right to challenge Stratford in this week’s East Gippsland senior football grand final.
The Tigers’ victory over the Cats at Bairnsdale City Oval was sealed in the final quarter when the Tigers converted a two-point lead to a convincing 34-point win, 14.10 (94) to 8.12 (60).
Lindenow had led at the first break and dominated the second term, to go into the change rooms at half-time with a two-goal lead. The Cats wasted chances late in the quarter to go into the main break with a greater lead.
However no-one told the Tigers they were out of the game and they wrested control of the match in the third term to take a slender lead into the final time.
Mark Sellings’ eight goals proved the difference between the teams, with Dylan Somervill, Daniel Zammit, Nick George and Sam Denby-Blake named among Wy Yung’s best.
Lindenow was well-served by David Donchi and Justin Blair, but the Cats players ran out of legs in the crucial final term.
In the reserves, Lucknow will meet Stratford in the grand final, while in the under 18s the Tigers will face Orbost-Snowy Rovers.
Lakes Entrance will play Orbost-Snowy Rovers in the under 16 football grand final.
