SALE United has the chance to win back-to-back Gippsland Soccer League premierships after defeating champion Churchill United 5-1 in a semi-final.
On Saturday night at Churchill, Tommy Nguyen scored two goals for the Swans, with one each from Jon Piefke, Dean Nichols and Kristian Phillips.
In the grand final this Sunday at Morwell, the Swans will meet Moe United, which defeated Falcons 1-0 in the other semi-final on Sunday.
Sale United also advanced to the youth grand final, but needed extra time to overcome Churchill 2-1. Scores were level 1-1 after 90 minutes.
In the grand final, the Swans will meet Falcons, who defeated Monash 2-1.
In the reserves, Sale lost to East Gippsland United 3-1. Churchill defeated Monash 4-3 after extra time in the other semi-final.
In the women’s, Tyers defeated Traralgon City 6-1, while Fortuna needed a penalty shoot-out to overcome Monash.
Sunday at Latrobe City Sports Stadium, Morwell:
Seniors: Sale United v Moe United, 4pm.
Youth: Sale United v Falcons, 2pm.
Reserves: Churchill United v East Gippsland United, noon.
Women’s: Tyers v Fortuna, 10am.
SALE United will play Traralgon City in a Battle of Britain Cup semi-final Wednesday night.
The match will be played at Churchill from 8.30pm.
Last week Traralgon defeated Moe United 4-1 in a quarter-final rescheduled from earlier this year.
The winner of Wednesday night’s match meet Falcons in the final.
Last week, Falcons defeated Morwell Pegasus 12-2 in a semi-final. Sam Amaira and Liam Johnson scored hat-tricks.
Sale United will also meet Traralgon City in Steel Youth Cup semi-final tomorrow night at Churchill from 6.30pm. Churchill United already booked its place in the final after defeating Monash 3-2 last week.
