COUNTRY won three of the four matches against Metro in their under 18 girls cricket series at Bundalaguah last week.
Bairnsdale’s Sophie Molineux, a member of the state senior squad, scored a century in the 50-over match on Wednesday.
In reply to Metro’s 113, Country surpassed the total with several overs to spare, with Molineux making 110. Wickets fell around Molineux, however, the left-hander showed enormous control, smashing 17 boundaries to steer the Country to victory.
Earlier, Molineux (3-9) and Blows (3-7) tore through the Metro batting line-up.
On Thursday, the teams split the two twenty20 matches played.
The day opened with the Molineux again leading the runs, top-scoring with 49 as Country reached 2-125 with Hope Irvine unbeaten on 44. Molineux again starred with the ball, snaring 2-6 as Metro finished on 7-90.
Metro won the final game by three runs.
Metro made 3-110 before Country scored 6-107 with Molineux making an unbeaten half-century.
Sale’s Holly Whitford and Maffra’s Hayleigh Brennan were also part of the Country squad.
