SALE-Maffra will be looking to complete a disappointing Gippsland Cricket League campaign on high note this Sunday.
The Sharks will head to Western Park, Warragul hoping to dash the home side’s hopes of making the final.
The defending premiers only chalked up their first win of the season in round four, but boast very talented all-rounders in Brad Scott, Jack Tatterson and Rohan Diamond. Josh Rurahwe and Brett Lanigan will lead the way with the bat.
Even with a win, Warragul will need to rely on second-placed Traralgon losing at home to top side Bairnsdale to move into the top two. Percentage could determine who will meet Bairnsdale in the final on February 1.
Warragul will need to boost its batting stocks and will require contributions from Corey Jagoe, Fraser Duncan and Trevor Gardiner. Its bowling has been a strength with Bryce Monahan and Jason Croft taking wickets.
In remaining match, Leongatha will host Central Gippsland with neither able to make the final.
THE GCL women’s competition also resumes following the Christmas break this Sunday with Sale-Maffra heading to Yarragon to meet Warragul.
These teams occupy the bottom two rungs on the ladder with Sale-Maffra winning once so far this season and Warragul yet to taste victory.
