SALE’S 17 and under team overpowered reigning premier Alberton in round one of the Eastern Regional State League netball competition.
Both sides had strong starts to the match before Sale finished stronger to win 33-14.
The season began on Friday night with all matches played at Churchill.
Newcomer Pakenham throwing everything it had at East Gippsland.
Pakenham just trailed after each break before lifting in the final term to draw 51-51.
The more experienced Gippsland team defeat a young developing Mid Gippsland 55-23.
North Gippsland had the bye.
IN the open division, Morwell Navy’s defence deteriorated in the second half, giving Gippsland a 51-34 win.
Alberton began is premiership defence confidently to defeat North Gippsland 66-19.
Morwell Red had the bye.
ON Friday night at Churchill, Sale will take on Mid Gippsland from 7.15pm. In other 17 and under matches, Gippsland will play Pakenham and North Gippsland begins its campaign against Alberton, while East Gippsland will have the bye.
In the open, Gippsland will play Morwell Red and North Gippsland will meet Morwell Navy. Alberton will have the bye.
